Logistics concept
Inventory accuracy
The extent to which the recorded inventory matches what is actually present on location.
Inventory accuracy indicates the extent to which the inventory in your system matches what is actually available. It is not just about the right quantity, but also about the right item, the right location, and the right status. After all, stock that is damaged, blocked, or already reserved cannot simply be delivered.
A reliable supply chain starts with data you can trust. Purchasing, planning, production, and sales base their decisions on recorded inventory. If that is incorrect, it leads to faulty ordering advice, unachievable delivery promises, and unexpected shortages. At the same time, unnecessary reorders may be placed even though items are present, but simply not in the right place or correctly recorded.
High inventory accuracy prevents unnecessary searching, rework, and rush orders. It helps you meet delivery agreements, minimize production interruptions, and manage inventory more effectively. This requires clear working agreements, timely registration of goods movements, and targeted stock counts. The result is better control over your operations, fewer unnecessary costs, and a more reliable service for your customers.
What is Inventory accuracy?
Inventory accuracy compares system inventory with physical inventory by item and location.
When do you use it?
Measure this when production stops, orders are incomplete, or employees are searching for material that the system shows as available.
What are the benefits?
More reliable planning, fewer rush corrections, and reduced downtime caused by unexpected shortages.
